10,000 monthly visitors, 3% CTR = 300 clicks. 2% CVR = 6 purchases. At $100 AOV and 15% commission: 6 × $100 × 0.15 = $90/month.

Choosing the Right Affiliate Programs

Commission rate is only one factor. Consider: average order value (10% of $500 = $50 vs 30% of $30 = $9), cookie duration (longer means more credit for delayed purchases), recurring commissions (SaaS products paying monthly for years are extremely valuable), and product-audience fit (a mismatched product converts poorly regardless of rate).

SaaS products with recurring commissions are the gold standard — 20–40% monthly recurring commission per referred customer compounds over time. Digital courses (40–70% commission) have high AOV. Financial products (credit cards, brokers) pay $50–$500 per referral. Physical products are lower commission (4–12%) but high volume.
